Problems with installing Red Hat Linux.

There was a very atypical problem that was brought to my attention. Someone was not able to install the latest RedHat Fedora distro on their HP notebook. Fedora could not recognize the hard disk in the computer and refused to move ahead.

I am guessing there are Linux Gurus out there who'd be able to modify a generic hard disk driver to get the Toshiba drive in this laptop to work with Linux. Sadly I am not one of them.

But I did find a workaround.

Install VMWare on your laptop. This software (and it's crack) is available on torrents. That way you can create a Virtual Machine on your Windows environment and install RedHat (or Ubuntu or Mandriva or even Mac OSX) without the undue burden of creating multiple boots.

So there, problem solved.

Good luck messing around with Linux. And always backup your important documents before you create dual boot systems.

  1. Sir, Kindly do NOT encourage piracy by asking students to download cracks/cracked apps. The whole purpose of Open Source is lost with this.

Virtualbox is a free virtualization software by Oracle. It works very similar to VMWare and hence can be used to install Redhat.

  2. Well i'm not completely against piracy cos being a student with no income..we really cant afford most of the stuff out there, but if there is an alternative like you pointed out i'l definitely go for the Open Source program.
but once i get a decent job i'm going to buy all official and encourage the developers..we know how hard its to program and come up with Great stuff we mooch of for free! :P
    cheers!

  3. Well Ashish, you certainly do have a point but is that a justification for practicing piracy?I don't believe so .That said,I'm a sinner too,all thanks to torrents.
